Maximal Semigroups in the Divisible Hull of Lattices in Nilpotent Lie Groups

We consider subsemigroups in the divisible hull of lattices in nilpotent Lie groups. Our principal result shows that such a semigroup is a group provided it is not contained in a proper semigroup with non-empty interior.
