History
The Journal of Lie Theory was founded in 1991 under the name Seminar Sophus Lie by Karl Heinrich Hofmann. For three years, it served as seminar proceedings of the seminar series Seminar Sophus Lie (https://math.uni-paderborn.de/ag/arbeitsgruppe-unendlich-dimensionale-analysis-und-geometrie/seminar-sophus-lie) which was established to connect mathematicians from East and West Germany interested in Lie groups and their wider horizon. In 1994, this series of proceedings was converted into an international journal with the name Journal of Lie Theory.
Karl Heinrich Hofmann carried on as managing editor of the journal until 1998. He was succeeded by Karl-Hermann Neeb who did this job between 1998 and 2023. Since 2023 Jan Frahm has been managing the journal, and he was joined by Michael Pevzner in 2026.
Between 1991 and 2025 the journal was published by Heldermann Verlag. Since 2026 it is owned by the University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne and published online by the Centre Mersenne under the diamond open access model.
