The Height Function on the 2-Dimensional Cohomology of a Flag Manifold

Let G/T be the flag manifold of a compact semisimple Lie group G modulo a maximal torus T, where T is a subset of G. We express the height function on the 2-dimensional integral cohomology H2(G/T) of G/T in terms of the geometry of the root systems of the Lie groups.
